COVID-19 Awareness and Information

We Care About Your Health

Protecting our members, employees and the community from the spread of the COVID-19 virus is critically important. We are closely monitoring the current situation and following recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local authorities.

We know how important it is to access your money at any time, so that is a top priority for us. We are taking precautions where possible to protect our members and employees. As the situation progresses, we will update members on this page, through social media and via email.

If you are hesitant or unable to visit your local CALCOE branch, remember Online Banking through either desktop or mobile app and Phone Teller remain available for your convenience and can be used for most of your banking transactions.

Tips for Members

We encourage you to follow the CDC’s recommendations for preventing the spread of this and other infectious viruses, including regularly washing your hands and staying home if you are ill. We also recommend washing your hands or using hand sanitizer before and after using an ATM or other high-touch device.

Yakima County Development Association has created a Yakima Valley map for open restaurants, medical locations and schools providing free meals. Thanks YCDA!

Should I Withdraw Cash?

Some people say you should withdraw cash to protect yourself during the COVID-19 outbreak. Here are four reasons withdrawing extra cash may actually be not the best possible move right now:

  1. Cash is vulnerable – Credit union accounts are federally insured to $250,000, making them a gazillion times safer than keeping your money under the mattress or in your pocket.
  2. Cash is not required – With so many secure ways to access your accounts and to pay your bills, there’s almost no reason you’ll need extra cash.
  3.  Cash is tempting – You may actually need less cash at this time time. Unless, of course, you’ve got it stuffed in your wallet, tempting you to spend money you would not have spent if it were secure in the credit union, earning dividends.
  4. Cash is, well, kind of dirty – As regards to your personal health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends always washing your hands thoroughly after handling cash, because you never know where it’s been.

Beware of Scams

Unfortunately, some people and companies are taking advantage of the fears surrounding the spread of the virus. Do not let fear cloud your judgment when accessing links from emails and social media. Here are some tips from the Federal Trade Commission.

In addition, fraudsters are also using sophisticated methods in attempt to fraud accounts. Fraudsters try to make it appear that their call or text is coming from CALCOE and even go so far as attempting to report fraud on your account!

Be aware. Be prepared. CALCOE will never ask you for information that we already have in our system. Do not give out personal information such as: Social Security Number, including the last four digits, online banking login information, passwords, debit card PINs, and/or debit or credit card numbers including the last four digits.

If you are suspicious of any call or text that is claiming to be from CALCOE, hang up or do not respond and then call us directly at 509.248.4308.

Please feel free to connect with us by calling 509.248.4308 or emailing us at info@calcoefcu.com.
